Description

  • Custom shoulder rest

Getting to know your violin is essential for successful practice and performance. The instrument is close to the body, but all players are shaped differently. The custom shoulder rest for the Nazi violin can be designed by the player to fit their body perfectly. Rigid foam is underlaid with a layer of malleable aluminum that can be bent with your thumb and forefinger to bring the rest into practically any position. Once the shoulder rest is molded, the shape remains solid and provides a secure structural platform.

  • Adjustable chin rest

If you could put all of the energy you put into holding your violin into your playing, would you play differently? The optimal chin rest position is crucial for player comfort. With full customization, each player can adjust the chin rest to very different body shapes and playing styles. Using your hand to overcome the friction of the clamp allows experimentation to find a desired chinrest angle. The chin rest can be tilted forwards and backwards as well as to the left and right. The clamping screws in the center of each hub can be adjusted to achieve the desired friction to ensure that the chin rest does not move during use. The chinrest position can also be moved closer or farther from the instrument using the 5/32 '' Allen key (included) to adjust the friction level. It can also be turned more towards the center or more to the side.

  • Balanced shoulder rest

What if your violin weighs nothing? Imagine for a minute not having to hold your violin between your chin and shoulder. Imagine if the violin effortlessly stays in place, your head and hands can move freely. Even the most aggressive bow does not move the instrument. It seems easy but safe to float next to your body in the perfect playing position.

NS Design's CR Electric Violin, available in both 4 and 5 string models, standard and fretted, is the preeminent electric violin on the market today. Designed by Ned Steinberger, the violin has a remarkable tonal range due to its innovative Polar™ Pickup System, which is able to selectively capture the string vibration favored for both bow and pizzicato technique with stunning brilliance and sensitivity.

The solid-body NS Electric Violin incorporates the familiar performance features of an acoustic instrument, including a removable bout segment to provide the left-hand reference position of a traditional instrument. Traditional string spacing and scale length facilitate the transition from the acoustic instrument to the world of the electric violin. Direct amplification and recording capabilities allow the violinist to experience the vast range of electronic and amplified performance opportunities, yet continue to savor the essence and timeless magic of the violin.

Features

SOLID MAPLE BODY AND NECK: The CR Violin is crafted of solid maple, with an elegant flame maple face. This lightweight solid-body design transfers the full spectrum of sound to the pickup without feedback, and is very stable even with changes in temperature and humidity. The ergonomic shoulder and chin rest provide comfortable, stable support, and a removable treble side bout is included for left hand position reference. The solid ebony fingerboard is hand graduated for consistent string articulation.

PERFORMANCE SUPPORT SYSTEMS: The CR Violin comes equipped with the Custom Shoulder Rest which can be formed by the player to fit the body perfectly. The ergonomically contoured ebony chin rest is designed to work in tandem with the Custom Shoulder Rest for control, comfort and security. The Adjustable Chin Rest is optional, offering a range of positions for individual fit, style and comfort, providing entirely new levels of ergonomic support. As an option, the violin can also attach to NS Design's revolutionary Balanced Shoulder Rest which secures it effortlessly in optimal playing position.

BRIDGE PICKUP: The Polar directional piezo pickup system responds selectively to either vertical vibration (for the sustained plucked sound, like a mandolin), or lateral vibration (for dynamic bowing, and a percussive plucked sound).

ACTIVE ELECTRONICS: The dual mode preamp allows the player to choose between two very distinct tone qualities. The first mode delivers the full frequency response of modern low impedance electronics, for a rich, full-blown "electric violin" sound. The second is balanced to produce the frequency response of the traditional violin, for a more "acoustic" sound. A three-way toggle switch allows the player to select the desired pickup and electronics options. Additional controls include volume and individual bass EQ & treble EQ controls.

PRECISION TUNING HARDWARE: With the NS Design patented tuning system, remarkably precise and stable tuning is accomplished entirely behind the bridge, in the manner similar to the fine tuners of an acoustic instrument. With the elimination of the traditional scroll and pegs, weight is shifted in towards the body of the player for optimum comfort. Although specially formulated NS Electric Violin Strings from D'Addario™ are recommended, any standard solid or stranded core violin string will fit the NS Violin. We do not recommend nylon (Perlon) core or gut core strings.

The Polar™ Pickup System allows the player to select the direction of response to control attack, sustain, and bow response characteristics. The result is an exciting new dimension in string instrument performance, featuring:

- Powerful dynamics
- Rich, full sound
- High sensitivity to the bow
- Sustained pizzicato
- Extended versatility

As a player, you may not think about the direction your strings are vibrating, or even be aware that string vibrations on a musical instrument are polarized in relation to the fingerboard and the motion of the plectrum and bow. Yet direction is one of the most significant factors influencing the tone and response of a stringed instrument. In fact, instruments from the violin family are different from the lute or guitar in large part due to the effects of string polarization.

The bow drives the string back and forth in the direction of the bow, while at the same time it suppresses the up and down vibration. You can see this effect with the naked eye by watching the wide excursion of the lowest strings when bowed. From the front, you can see a wide lateral pattern of string vibration, but looking from the side you can see almost no pattern at all. Instruments in the violin family have a tall bridge in combination with an asymmetrical support structure of bass bar and sound post that efficiently translate the sideways motion of the bowed string into sound.

The Polar pickup responds with a high degree of lateral sensitivity and vertical rejection that is tailored to mirror the polarity of the bowed string. The result is a remarkably dynamic, rich tone that responds effortlessly to the bow.

The Polar pickup takes this concept one step further, and is able to switch from lateral to vertical sensitivity, which is ideal for pizzicato. Unlike the violin, a flattop guitar or lute respond in the vertical direction, to minimize the plucked attack and store energy for longer sustain. With the touch of a finger, the polar pickup can switch from lateral to vertical mode. In the vertical mode the attack is controlled for a sustained, singing pizzicato response. The lateral mode has the opposite effect, and the plucked response is extraordinarily percussive, like a traditional bowed instrument, only more so. This dual capacity allows the player to control attack and decay, adding new expressive potential to the violin family of instruments.

CR and NXT Series violins, violas, cellos, and basses are equipped with the dual-mode Polar Pickup System. On CR Series instruments, bass and treble EQ controls combine with the Polar pickup options to provide tremendous tonal range. Pickup switching and associated pre-amp circuitry vary from model to model.
