Description
There's probably a reason I'm still there. And it is becoming increasingly important for me to find out why, «says Eric Clapton.
Peter Kemper is looking for these reasons. He talks about how an unfortunate white youth from shattered conditions in Britain in the post-war period had the idea to commit to the American, black blues. He describes how the exceptional musician got his later drug use under control, how he dealt with strokes of fate like the death of his son - and where Clapton gets the strength from to continue playing the blues.
Kemper always takes two constants into consideration, namely Clapton's view of the blues in connection with his understanding of "blackness" (how could his derailments in Birmingham against blacks come about?) And his lifelong adoration of the blues myth Robert Johnson (1911-1938), perhaps the only sure reference point in his life.
Eric Clapton is the only artist who managed to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times - with the Yardbirds, with Cream and for his solo career. He won 17 Grammys, six of them in connection with the most successful album in the MTV Unplugged series to date.
A life for the blues tells of Clapton's roots, his music, his world career - and his demons.
