The KORG SV-1 Stage Vintage Piano caused quite a stir when it was introduced over 10 years ago with its iconic design and simple operating concept and has always been used by countless well-known musicians in studios and on stages around the world. The SV-2 follows the same philosophy as its legendary predecessor, but expands the functionality and sound quality many times over. What has remained is the iconic design and the still intuitive user interface. But under the hood a lot has changed significantly.
The SV-2 has a huge sample memory of several gigabytes, which of course particularly benefits the acoustic piano sounds. The SV-2 has space for no less than four top-class concert grand pianos (German Grand, Austrian Grand, Italian Grand and Japanese Grand) and two pianos (Japanese Upright and German Upright). Thanks to the use of the latest sample technologies and the large internal memory of the SV-2, the sounds are in no way inferior to their acoustic models.
The same applies of course to all other tones of the SV-2, including numerous legendary electric piano models (Reed, Tine, FM, electromechanical, etc.) including authentic reproductions of the typical background noises as well as the matching vintage effects and speaker simulations. The organ sounds also live up to their role models in terms of sound and are represented in a large selection with the types of tonewheel, tube, transistor and pipe organs.
The SV-2 also offers funky clav sounds, numerous string and ensemble sounds, choirs, brass instruments and classic synthesizer pads, leads and bass sounds.
Using the free editor software for Mac and PC, layer and split sounds can be created with up to three different timbres (for example a piano / bass split with an additional string layer) and as one of the 64 favorite sounds save. Due to the expanded polyphony of 128 voices, long sustained chords are no problem when using multiple layers.
All models of the SV-2 are equipped with the tried and tested RH3 keyboard from KORG, which, with its hammer mechanism and graduated weighting over four zones, conveys the authentic feel of a concert grand piano. Both the SV-2 and the SV-2 S are available with either 73 or 88 keys.
