With approaching 50 years now of experience building high performance Tube amplifiers for Guitar and Bass, obviously, we have learned a thing or two about Tone. Early on we realized that every single part in the signal path truly is a "Tone control". From its beginning where the flesh on your fingertips meet the string, to the plectrum used to strike it, to the pickups that transmit the voltage generated by its vibration, to the cable where the voltage is finally fed to the Speaker, and everything in between... each and every element plays a critical role in the overall response and character of the sound.

So it is only fitting that when time allowed, we began looking for areas where we might apply that experience to improve performance in the peripheral components connected to our amplifiers. In virtually all Guitar and Bass rigs, Tone is won or lost at the Big Three Crossroads; Input, Effects Loop and Output. Of the three, Output, while still affected by peripheral interconnects, is less sensitive than Input and Effects Loop, and is more impacted by impedance and "loading" factors.

It made sense then to focus energy first, where it can be most effective; Input connections and in some cases, Effects Loop connections. To narrow it down further, Input connections are by far the more sensitive of those junctions with capacitance, impedance and distance traveled being big factors in performance. In today's pedal-heavy era, these things become a constant challenge to great Tone.
